Muzak

The Muzak project is an on-going series of mixes created by a group of international friends of ours. All contributors have been asked to make a selection of tunes to be distributed on this site. We aim to bring music of great variety and to upload a new mix at least every month. Enjoy
Natasha Ganelina is the art director of Strelka Bar, one of Moscow's most interesting cultural venues which houses concerts and dj-sets by artists such as How To Dress Well, King Krule, Dean Blunt and Ariel Pink. Strelka is the place to check for exhibitions or fashion show after parties and to see director Whit Stillman dancing to disco, singer Caroline Polachek jumping on couches or architect Rem Koolhas having a late-night dinner.

In this mix, Natasha recalls her childhood and past dreams. Here she combines sounds from her parents' first imported cassette player; terrible post-Perestroika era pop - music from the 1990s with its primitive rhythm; CD's from Russia's first music magazines on techno, ambient and trip hop; and the beats of Moscow's first dance parties, frequented by both the cool kids and the gangsters.
